The average house cost 8.3 times someone's annual salary in 2022 https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/housing/bulletins/housingaffordabilityinenglandandwales/2022 Here's a graph showing the difference in household affordability from 1984 onwards (ending in 2016) which emphasises the massive, massive difference. The current level would go off that scale.  Furthermore, here's a link to a study that concludes that in 2012, it was two and a half times more expensive to buy a house than it was in 1975: http://www.iea.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/files/Abundance%20of%20Land%20Shortage%20of%20Housing.pdf That was in 2012 when house prices were around 4.5 times the annual salary, so given it's now 8.3 times, it's gotten significantly more expensive. By all means, tell me all of that is bollocks as much as you want, but it isn't.
