You cannot wish the corona virus away. There will be a second wave and probably a third and a fourth - until a vaccine has been found.

Our healthcare system and living conditions are clearly better than 100 years ago, but covid 19 has still killed 30,000 British citizens. More likely 40,000 when you compare with average death rates.
Without the dramatic interventions from the government and 7 weeks of lock down, we would undoubtably seen much higher death rates. We would be looking at 100,000 to 200,000 deaths by now easily. Their actions have certainly prevented deaths in the hundreds of thousands.
Covid 19 and Spanish Flu can be compared. They are both corona viruses / influenza flu that attack the respirtory system. Both lead to pneumonia.
