On a human level, it is just very sad to think what this must do to the relationship of the Queen and her grandchildren, as well as resentments which might naturally arise between cousins, etc. I suppose the Queen is in a sense recreating the family strife she already experienced when the succession laws were changed to put her on the throne ahead of her uncle and cousins. According to the Danish broadsheet Politiken, in an interview with Countess Alexandra, her sons were not informed and it has come as a shock. So called "experts" can understand the reasoning but feel the execution is abrupt & rather cruel. The 4 children of Prince Joachim still keep their place in the line of succession. When Nikolai was born it served a purpose that he be given the title of prince as CP Frederik had no children at that point.
Constitutionally it is easier to give something than take away something. In light of yesterday's announcement, it would have been better if Prince Joachim's sons had not been given royal titles at birth. If Frederik never married or didn't have children, Joachim's children would be upgraded. What a mess the queen has created ...
