The relaying of the message should have come from Joachim. Again this was not an overnight decision. Joachim knew this was coming and as such should have notified and prepared his sons Joachim and company reacted like this was breaking news and just happened this morning.

They could have but it would be dishonest given it is not how they feel.
It seems that the Queen might not have spoken to her grandchildren herself about it at all before making this decision public. Imagine that your grandmother acts as Queen of Denmark and removes your title Prince of Denmark without any face to face discussion about it at all. I would imagine that might feel quite hurtful and like one is being cut off. Even though it is a title it is also a part of their name and identity. If someone took away or changed my name without telling or asking me I would be devastated.
Of course, she is the queen and can do as she pleases here but the freedom of exercising this power comes with the consequences of the affected parties feeling any which way about it. It could have been handled better.
