Charles and Kirsten, Thanks for your thoughtful and measured remarks. Attacking people who speak up when something happens to them is becoming too common. The older children may have been well aware that they would eventually be demoted, perhaps when they marry or reach a certain age, but this was an obvious shock to all parties, which means there was insufficient/ inadequate communication from their own grandmother, which must feel awful and disrespectful.
