Positive changes like those which King Charles seems to envision are never easy. And some of the “people familiar with a one thousand year old institution” are, by the very nature of their entrenched long-held positions, obstacles to modernization. Tactless Lady Susan is just the tip of a privileged lily-white iceberg representative of a past reality. I hope the King and Queen keep trying new things, as Charles has been contemplating innovation and trimming for a long time.
