What was most appalling about Lady Susan Hussey's comments was the casual racism of it. Like her ignorance and entitlement was to such a degree that she did not know (or care) how deeply offensive her line of questioning was.
The announcement of the Queen's companions was disappointing too. They were all ladies from the same background as Camilla, who look like her. They need to get rid of these honorary roles, which are only filled by those who can afford to do so without pay, i.e. wealthy ladies of the non-working class, peerage or landed gentry. Instead they need to hire qualified professionals to work at BP from diverse backgrounds, religions, education, and social standing, immigrants, and people of color, to be more representative of modern Britain. The court can't just talk about diversity and inclusivity -- they need to action it, or more of these unacceptable and racist situations will continue. If the court does not become more inclusive, more and more people will rightly question its ability to represent them. Previous Message

For the monarchy to survive they have to represent all sections of the modern UK. People who think it is ok to speak to black people like that can’t be anywhere near the Royal Court, never mind at its centre . It makes me cringe that she was there supporting the Queen Consort and welcomed a guest in this way. I’m sure Lady Susan will be appalled that she has embarrassed the new King like this after years of service and a new role. But she didn’t say one silly thing and then apologise she kept on and on at the poor woman . She should be embarrassed. William must be fuming as it’s all over the UK and US media when it’s meant to be focusing on his Earthshot Prize.
I think it is now imperative for the new King and Queen to divest themselves of these antiquated and out of date retainers and start to surround themselves with people from more varied backgrounds including people of colour who represent modern Britain instead of the usual coterie of titled folk from similar backgrounds to themselves. The late Queen at least made a start in this direction by employing working-class girl Angela Kelly as her wardrobe adviser. If this now comes to pass (as it should) Lady Susan's unfortunate outburst will at least have some positive outcome. More Angelas and less Lady Susans?
