Could one of you (or more than one) explain why England has gotten their knickers in the proverbial twist over the European Union?
From what I can gather from the American press (a somewhat suspect source of information at the best of times) England and Wales have voted to exit the European Union, whereas Scotland and Northern Ireland have voted to stay. Many of those that voted state that they are feeling remorse and are asking for another vote nation wide to reverse their initial votes.
The Prime Minister seems to have resigned in a huff and has gone off grouse hunting in some forgotten corner of the UK, leaving a massive constitutional crisis not seen since the future King Edward decided to abdicate the throne to be with the "Woman he loved".
I have one contact (an ex greenie) that tells me that he is tired of having his money go to some derelict Romanian somewhere in Europe, yet another tells me that we are entering another phase of British Colonialism without the colonies, and we might as well put old Enoch Powell into 10 Downing Street and stop all this pretending that we are in the 21st Century.Throw in an assassination of a woman member of Parliament and we have a satisfactory script for another BBC cliffhanger!
The Americans are somewhat baffled because they do not understand why their pension money have lost 2-5% in value, yet MacDonald's Hamburgers are still going great guns. (Are Wimpie's still around) and all fingers are pointing to the UK and Europe.
So gentlemen, without resorting to choice Anglo-Saxon four letter words, would you voice your opinions as to the situation, that I may tell my American neighbours who look upon me as knowing all there is to know as to what is happening in the United Kingdom?
Thank You
Phred
