I have to agree that nursing homes are the pits if you don't have someone to advocate for you. I just got word that an old friend who had been in one because of dementia for over 5 years passed away yesterday. His wife would schlep there every other day and she's older than me. The place couldn't have been too bad or she would have looked for another and I never heard her complain of neglect but she'd bring his laundry home or bring him his favorite foods. At first, he'd recognize her and be glad to see her but in latter years it was hit or miss and he could get argumentative. She and her son were able to see him the day before he passed although visitors are not allowed to nursing homes these days. They had to wear masks, gloves and protective gear and were sprayed down but the time was limited to 15 minutes and he was unresponsive during that time.
I don't want to be around in the state he was in either.
