I agree that this is not the kind of place you'd go to without money behind you..enough to last the anticipated rest of your life. I don't think Medicare is involved beyond whatever health problems a person might have. Medicaid doesn't kick in until the person is destitute, the last figure I recall is can have no more than $2500 and that includes the cash value of whatever insurance they might have. I suppose if someone lives beyond a normal lifetime, most awareness becomes cloudy and the only concern is comfort and food regardless of where they are. At this point, there is no concern about a spouse being left behind to consider so there's a different mindset, only your own well being to concern yourself with, not what you might leave behind in an estate. If it takes a few more bucks to make your life more content and you have it, use it.
