For the previous three Queens Consort last century, I cannot think of any occasion, other than coronation, when they wore their crowns with arches.
So no need to do any more to that crown.
I totally agree, after having watched the Coronation 6 times now (!) I think TQ's Crown looks too big for her. Like an oversized hat, strange. It mustn't be thst easy to move around with a large crown on ones head, TQ was very careful when walking and she didn't move her head that much at all. There was the " story " that lip readers employed by certain national papers reported that both TK and Q remarked to each other on BP balcony that they couldn't mice their heads up or down , TQ even saying she couldn't see much of anything " because of this crown"
I honestly don't think any further changes will be made to QM's crown. I think this is the final version. UNLESS TQ or TK really didn't like it . And I don't think TQ is the dirt of person to suggest lowering the arches yo give a better overall effect ... unless she reads these boards !
I agree completely!
It looks odd because Camilla's crown was in fact taller than Charles'. If the arches of Camilla's crown were lowered substantially it would have looked much more balanced.
One of the things that surprised me about St Edward's crown was that to me it looked dull and not shiny gold like I thought it was!
Yes, I hope the king will continue to wear the Imperial State Crown at the opening of Parliament. What is interesting to me is that the arches were not altered for the coronation.
If you look at pictures of the Imperial State Crown from Queen Victoria to George VI the arches were raised, or at least up higher. I've read where the arches were lowered for Queen Elizabeth II to give it a more feminine look.
So I was thinking that the arches would have been returned to a little more higher position for the king. Although I love that crown it does seem a little odd on Charles and it may take a little bit to get used to. I hate to say it, but it did seem a little bit feminine in my opinion.
Here is a link to my blog entry. If you scroll down a bit you can see the picture of king Edward VII George VI and Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Imperial State Crown and see how the arches are set.

I've also heard some people say that Queen Camilla should have worn a smaller crown and that this one seemed a bit too big for her head and in that case I do agree. So I do hope she wears it without the arches for the state opening of Parliament.
I don't think the Imperial State Crown is gaudy at all. It's actually my favorite crown. I love the tradition of wearing it at the State Opening of Parliament. I hope he continues it.
I think St Edward's is the gaudy crown.
For Parliament the King will probably wear the Imperial State Crown. If so the Queen might wear her coronation crown without the arches.
