As for the lesser Royals' supposed life in cages, I take a different view.
From what I have been reading, many of the royals want to cling to their titles and the deference and privileges that go with it. I see no sign of deprivation in them. Doors have been opened for those who want to leave. More often than not, they race back in, lest those doors close permanently.
Or not a disappointment at all? The new plan fits better with a world full of stressed people with increasingly limited patience and short attention spans. A 20th century coronation in 2023 would certainly reinforce the notion of monarchy as a tone-deaf, antiquated freak show.
As one who does not think very highly of King Charles, I do believe he is absolutely on the right track regarding the modernization and slimming down of the British monarchy. However, I hope he also learned from Queen Margrethes recent folly not to rush things or skip important steps such as effective communication with those who will be impacted.
