That 21st century audience spent days glued to ceremonies honoring the deceased monarch. Even American news channels carried hours of live coverage. I suspect there will be a large and enthusiastic global audience for the Coronation as well. And a lot of us like King Charles.
You're not making too much of it to my mind. In 1953, there was this gritty adult audience that remembered one or two bitter world wars and enduring the Blitz along with their lovely young Queen and her family.
Seventy years on, we have a very different audience, glued to their smart phones and unable to pay attention to very much for more than three minutes, least of all a multi-hour glorification of some stuffy old codger to whom they never could relate. ... Perhaps they should revise the event to be Queen Camilla's coronation - she has shown herself to be a very relatable personality.
