Puppet show? grossly outdated institution? I take it you're not a big supporter of the Monarchy.
The British monarchy is not there to entertain global audiences or get income from television rights. If that becomes the most important argument for continuing this extraordinary puppet show I think the majority of British will quickly reconsider their form of government. What we have here is a grossly outdated institution with an incredible visual attractiveness that is run by a over-privileged family that all considered is so far removed from everyday reality that it's sore on the eyes. I pity the young royals locked in this royal dungeon and I hope Charles will do everything to give them a humane future by modernising it thoroughly and swiftly from the inside and that some members of the British public will lower their unrealistic high expectations of the (importance of this) institution and in particular the people that need to function and have something of a sane life within it.
That 21st century audience spent days glued to ceremonies honoring the deceased monarch. Even American news channels carried hours of live coverage. I suspect there will be a large and enthusiastic global audience for the Coronation as well. And a lot of us like King Charles.
You're not making too much of it to my mind. In 1953, there was this gritty adult audience that remembered one or two bitter world wars and enduring the Blitz along with their lovely young Queen and her family.
Seventy years on, we have a very different audience, glued to their smart phones and unable to pay attention to very much for more than three minutes, least of all a multi-hour glorification of some stuffy old codger to whom they never could relate. ... Perhaps they should revise the event to be Queen Camilla's coronation - she has shown herself to be a very relatable personality.
