DaNang Harbor"
Herman is correct. We entered Danang Harbor before we went on station. We anchored in the harbor and the officers went ashore for updates. We again went into Danang Harbor when we off loaded "Big Mother", the helicopter. We had tried to have her lifted off by one of the carriers on Yankee Station but couldn't get close enough for the crane to lift it off. When we were in the harbor one of the flying cranes (looked like a mosquito) took her off. We were there overnight. The USS Sanctuary and the USS Repose (hospital ships) were both in the harbor at the same time. If my memory serves me, one of our destroyers was shelling the north shore of the harbor because it was rumored that the VC were trying to get to the hospital ships.
