What an odd response, any publication ignores/under reports facts that don't suit it's agenda and promotes those which do. And most readers chose publications that re-enforce there existing beliefs.
The Dorchester review downplays the suffering of the indigenous Canadian population under colonization and glorifies colonization, so this story simply fits it's agenda.
And as for the vandalism of churches in France maybe it is happening. It might be anti-Catholic it might be just vandalism with no religious agenda but it certainly can be used to influence the voting behaviour religious Catholics in France vote in particular ways. Previous Message
What does the political slant of the journal have anything to do with it? If the facts in the article are correct, they are correct. And what has any of this to do to justify burning houses of worship to the ground? I can understand Louis, Duc d'Anjou's reaction very well. This justification of destruction on ideological grounds didn't start with the French Revolution that consumed his ancestors, but it certainly was one of the most prominent examples of the trend, and it is sadly very much part of our present day. That brings to mind the Catholic churches that were burned down last year in Canada in the wake of shocking discoveries of graves of hundreds of the First Nations children forcibly taken from their families by the government to be "educated" by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and others -- never to be heard from again.
No doubt there are many people seething with rage and frustration about the Church's mixed response to clerical abuse, but the desecration at St. Denis may just as well have been the work of a troubled and/or malevolent person who happened upon an opportunity. That is why I hope the police solve the crime quickly before some random gay or Muslim or immigrant person is singled out and "punished" as retaliation.
