And the Monacos who like to be named Grimaldis btw
In these instances, these families are heirs of those houses. Grand Duchess Charlotte was the daughter of the last dynast of the ducal family of Nassau; as such her issue are the new or second House of Nassau... but they are still a cadet branch of the House of Bourbon-Parma which itself through several steps is a cadet branch of the Capetian House of France.
In the Netherlands, the fact that the names and titles of members of the family have to repeatedly be decreed through each queen shows that the male line name would otherwise supplant the female one; still, the monarchs of this house of Orange have been the heirs of Orange (gained through an heiress!) and have successively been members also of the houses of Nassau, of Mecklenburg, of Lippe, and of Amsberg!
