order in 1921 at age 18. Possibly brothers King Haakon VII and King Christian X started this tradition?
So why are the second in line to succession of Denmark and Norway awarded each others main orders when neither the Duchess of Brabant nor the Princess of Orange (both first in line of succession) have not been given the orders.
Both Elisabeth and Catharina-Amalia were present in Norway and Denmark when the second in line of succession of that country got both orders. It feels a bit unfair the Benelux ladies were left out.
I think these orders would normally only be given in connection with state visits, but the close bonds between the Norwegian and Danish royal families may explain why Ingrid Alexandra and Christian received their foreign decorations on their 18th birthdays. Crown Prince Haakon also received the Order of the Elephant on his 18th birthday.
