McCamey Theater"
I don't claim to think I know everything, but since Floyd has brought up the picture and if it might be the Grand, I would say it definitely is, because as most of you know I do lots of research on McCamey for the articles I write.......I do know at one time there was at least 10 theaters in McCamey, not during my time of course, but I can name you a few as I have done research on them....there was the Queen, The Ritz, The Moon, The Unique, The Emerald, The Majestic and the Star to name a few, and of course as always the Grand. I do know from working with Malcolm Reimers for many years and hearing some of his stories, that probably in the 30's the Grand burned down, and they moved it over next to the old Sub Station where I first worked for the Sheriff's Dept. in the Tax office...It was the Grand Open Air Theater. This was only temporary until they could rebuild the original Grand. As you see the building is burning so it stands to reason that this was the same theater....and I have lived here all these years, and was very familiar with that building, and as far as I am concerned, that is the Grand.......Malcolm worked in that theater for Oscar Karns for several years until he went into the service, and then came back and went into law enforcement where he remained for 39 years until 1985. I do know the day they tore down that building, part of my heart went along with it....I ended up with an exit sign from it, whatever good that will do me, but it is a reminder of some wonderful memories my brother Rayford and I had at the Grand Theater. This is my take on the picture for whatever it is worth..... Roylene Chandler Davis
