McCamey Theater"
I don't think this is the Grand theater. The grand was on the corner with the entrance facing the news office. The south side was a flat wall with only one double door (emergency exit) immediately behind the theater were three small almost identical houses and then the brick bulding that housed the West Texas Utilities offices. In the picture there is another building to the left. If this is actually a picture of the Rear of the Grand theater, the other building woule have to be Coats Motor Company (a Buick-Pontiac dealer) That building would be across Burleson ave and doesn't appear to be that far away. The other theater in town was the Palace. The ex manager of the Palace worked as a truck driver for my Father, who was the manager of Sunset Motor lines. We moved to Mc Camey in 1947. I used to ride the trucks with the delivery drivers and this man (I have no idea what his name was} told me about working at the Palace until it closed in 1944, and showed me the site where the building had been. I can't remember if he ever mentioned why it closed. It faced Burleson, just like the Grand and was 3 or four blocks North, just before the railroad tracks. Across the street was the lumber yard and a lot where the Stokes Trucking Company parked their trucks. Speaking of Coats Motor Company. McCamey also had Slaughter Motor Company and the C.W. Brown Motor Company at the same time
