1. It's not about changing our history. Removing a statue will not do that, nor will it erase it. History can be learnt from books and museums. The statue should be taken to a museum where it can be properly contextualized, with full disclosure on how Colston got his money and what he did with it. Removing the statue is about showing sensitivity to those whose ancestors were, due to the colour of their skin, enslaved and treated as animals. It's about recognising that having such a statue celebrating such a man is a big "up yours" to black Bristolians.
