    I don’t think we are in the same position as were in the 50s. There was legal segregation in the States then. We have also seen a more diverse political class in terms of colour than was the case back in the day. More mixed race kids being born in mixed race marriages ( mine are). This doesn’t seem to have been seen in the boardroom or at the top of our civil service though.

    However, recently there does seem to have been a deterioration. For a long time, those that held racist views kept them pretty much to themselves in public. There seems to be more overt racism kicking about. I wouldn’t blame Brexit for starting that trend, but it seemed to exacerbate it.

    I was surprised at the level of racism in Brazil when I lived out there, Basque Country too, i suppose every country has it to a greater or lesser extent. It should be combatted every time it rears it’s ugly head though, because if it gets out of hand we have seen throughout history the terrible results that could have.
