    Problem in a nutshell right there.

    This is a day where the overwhelming majority of people can celebrate away. Sing Vera Lynn songs. Etc.

    The tiny minority whom take a marginally broader view in any way, shape or form, are "self loathing".

    It's not self loathing at all. It's just trying to be balanced, and look at the full story, rather than simply the part that involves us winning.

    Same as when we discuss Empire. Sure, discuss it. Discuss all the good that came of it. But also, there was a lot of bad than also came of it. Let's hear it all rather than just wrap ourselves up in a flag like we criticise Americans for doing and assume we did not wrong.

    All that said, enjoy your day however you choose to celebrate it.
