Its all about consistency. Chelsea wouldn’t be where they are for the last 15 seasons without the huge Abramovich investment. Now he seems to be scaling back, but they have reached their top 4 status on a consistent basis.
Leicester was a 1000-1 fluke. They were on course for relegation the following season and haven’t been in Europe since.
Burnley have had seasons lower mid table. They won’t challenge at the top or in Europe. They have been FL champions in the past and can draw on a reasonable fan base ... they may be punching slightly above their weight, but not much.
Sheffield United will be back in the Championship within 4 seasons.
Ajax in the semis was a fluke. Regular champions in Holland, but rarely get out the Group stage. If the Arabs bought Ajax they would fail as the Dutch League can’t generate the income and so they wouldn’t be able to invest for a consistent challenge in Europe.
Arsenal and (especially) Man United can spend big to get back to the top because of their income and power which has largely been built up in the immediate seasons pre FPP.... something that say even historically big clubs like Everton or Newcastle wouldn’t be allowed to do. How fair is that?
