Could it be that the royal standard flew over BP becaue the King was there & over CH because the Queen was there?
This was exactly my thought. It is more than 70 years since there were a King and a Queen, they used to live in Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Does someone among us know, how it was handled with the Royal Standard when The King (George VI) was in London at Buckingham Palace, whilst The Queen (Elizabeth) remained in Windsor with the two Princesses? Was there a Royal Standard flowing over the round tower in Windsor or only one over Buckingham Palace?
On the other hand, Wikipedia says "The Royal Standard is flown at royal residences only when the sovereign is present." So the previously expressed guesses are more likely, why on both royal residences the Royal Standard flows (travelling of the monarch from CH to BP and back several times a day)...
