Re: Senator Markle
Well its of public concern, this unsettled business. Besides the Wales, The Princess Royal and The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh there really is no use for any more 'working' royals. The monarch is the head of state. The spouse and the heir's family have a role and form a joyous embellishment but above all serve a practical purpose: to support the monarch. Everyone outside the direct line of succession is constitutionally speaking completely irrelevant unless the heir and his/her offspring dies prematurely. That chance is less than zero. All these other people were lucky to be born into this family but the buck stops there: that fact alone does not entitle them to claim a public role or privileged position. They might get some graces and favours from the monarch in his position as head of a fabulously wealthy family but that is a family matter, not of any public concern. Princess Anne understands this very well, Andrew and the Sussexes clearly do not: they demanded royal titles for their children. The Edinburghs dangle somewhere in between. If the family can't deal with it, the government has to. Previous Message This seems to be something of an over reach, Johan. I have no time for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex but they have not committed treason, as did those affected by the Titles Deprivation Act, and their children are blameless. Similarly, what has Andrew done to be stripped of his titles and place in the succession? The Sussexes are best ignored and the Duke of York lives quietly in the country (and seems set to continue to do so). Were we to strip titles and succession rights from those we dislike or of whom we disapprove we would not be left with many royals.
