To me Charlotte children should have at least an equal rank to those of Louis. So if his kids are going to be lord/lady (assuming the letters patent of 1917 get altered) than Charlotte needs a noble title herself. Edinburgh seems unlikely but another style would fit.
Im not sure she'll be Princess Royal once wed. It might be a suitable title for an unwed oldest daughter but it might get reserved for a princess who is first in line of succession if they don't make her Princess of Wales in her own right.
That is why i hope Charlotte will be given a peerage (lifetime would be fine in my view) as it would give her children the same status as those of her younger brother Louis.
You cannot compare Charlotte with Anne. The current Princess Royal grew up knowing her two younger brothers and their descendants would precede her in the line of succession and she made her choices accordingly. Charlotte only has George before her. Considering they are not that far apart in age it's not even unlikely that Charlotte may be the first of William's children to get married. In case George does not have any legitimate offspring Charlotte and her children are a heartbeat away from the crown so having some sort of style and title might be helpful.
Princess Charlotte will eventually become The Princess Royal. The current Princess Royal's children have done just fine without any titles. I'm sure any children Princess may or may not have will just fine to.
