However, I think I agree with you that this is decision fits with the King's overall vision for slimming down the Royal Family. It also makes sense given that hereditary peerages are no longer bestowed outside the RF, only life peerages. (Still, part of me is sorry that the Edinburgh dukedom will not be perpetuated be descent.)
The recent action of King Charles III creating a royal dukedom for lifetime only has really set me thinking.
That such titles can be restricted to senior working royals is one advantage, as I see it. And they could easily be granted to women.

Quite unneceassary complication. Gender neutral would work by simply dropping the word "male".
