I am aware that it was communicated years ago Edward may one day receive his father's title but the questions is: WHY? We live in 2022 and although some on these boards may disagree, society( even in Britain) is changing fast and with it how we look at the aristocracy and royalty. The institution and some of the traditions and rules that go with it need a thorough update if the monarchy is to remain relevant and not a empty spectacle to be enjoyed on Netflix. QEII and DoE were traditionalists. If KCIII continues this line of thinking, I honestly fear the worst. You can't wait for change to gradually just happen, it needs a push.

Edward is a royal prince, he has a comital title, he is the youngest brother of the reigning monarch. So where to go from here? His children will not have any formal role to play and therefor no practical need of such a grant title.

Perhaps some people in and outside the institution don't want certain people to fall of the royal wagon, although some are trying their best themselves to jump off it seems, but I am afraid that's just what is going to happen eventually anyway. Why wait for it a full generation?

You can throw tradition and letters patent at me but keeping this all up does not strengthen the institution, it weakens it.

Does the BRF and the UK really need all these side branches carrying Royal Ducal titles into perpetuity? We have the Kents, Gloucesters. Possibly Cambridge (Louis) and Edinburgh (Edward).

All these very grant titles will be carried by people without grand estates or private wealth. How many of these fringe royals will live in grace and favour houses, struggle to be relevant beyond being part of the family? Not very royal is it... End this nonsense.
