FACTS:
1 - One of the major metropolitan areas in the state
2 - "Competitive" marching and honor band?
3 - Trying REAL hard to keep band fees in the three-digit range.
4 - Private lessons are required to be in Varsity Band (for Concert Season).
I have a parent really pushing back on #4. I explained the student can participate (Non-Varsity) but not in Varsity.
The parent is questioning the legality of this. What can I say or do? I think it could be a slippery slope if I let it slide. My administration supports the requirement, in theory, but it hasn't been tested yet.
Also - The students is one of the top 3 players in their section, AND the family will not qualify for the lesson scholarship the band provides. The kid is great - I am just not sure what the parents' agenda is.
