When I first saw the series finale, I was shocked and gutted in how it ended the show. That was when I first found this site in 2013 and just had to vent in disbelief.
In particular, there was no closure for Zeke, Myron and Taylor - the main characters and fan favourites.
This show really needed a Season 4, preferably back in the US and how that perhaps maybe affected them more than the Vietnam War itself. Fans rallied for a final Season 4 for 'China Beach' around the same time, and that show managed to bring closure to both the War, the characters and their futures. Tour of Duty really needed the same treatment, particularly after we fans had followed and became so engaged in the characters.
For what it's worth, looking for answers a couple of years back, I came across an LA Times article from November 1988 (no longer publicly available online), in which Zev Braun and Rick Husky mentioned that there was 'a five-year plan mapped out at "Tour of Duty's" inception'.
Further, Steve Duncan mentioned in his HUM90 interview that there was a 'series bible', and there was talk of a fourth season before it was cancelled.
It would be really awesome if it was released, and we finally found how the show would have continued and properly ended. Particularly, for each of the guys.
