What are additional examples of grandfathers who lived to see their grandchildren become monarchs?
On August 2, 1830, Charles X, King of France and Navarre, abdicated in favour of his son Louis.
On the same day (twenty minutes later), Louis abdicated in favour of his nephew Henri.
Then Louis-Philippe usurped the throne with the title King of the French.
So, despite the fact that Henri quite legally became King of France in the lifetime of his paternal grandfather, history has denied him that title.
