Did Mountbatten get along with Q.Mary and G.VI ?
How ironic that much was made of Philip's German ancestry, when the same could describe Elizabeth -- at least on her father's side of the family.
George VI was about as German as could be, excepting the Hungarian blood he inherited from his morganaut-born mother.
If I understand correctly, there were other objections to the match. The king thought his daughter *too young*, had not had the time to *shop around* more -- not considering the possibility that she was a woman with her mind made up. The queen simply disliked him personally: she had a harder time in being won over to her prospective son-in-law.
It seems that the most enthusiastic member of the royal family over the union was Queen Mary. By all accounts, she liked Philip tremendously and was supportive of the couple. Perhaps she saw a kindred spirit in him, in that he was like herself in terms of background (German origin, British by adoption and assimilation, although in her case she was born on native soil).
In any case, she was thrilled on the occasion of her granddaughter's wedding. So there was at least one important person who didn't harbor any serious objections to the marriage.
