I guess the GD family would have prefer someone from a royal family, even non-reigning, such as Brazil or some austrian arch-duchess, or someone close related to RF such as Catherine of Limburg-Stirum.
Both Gdk Jean and GDss Josephine-Charlotte had renounced their youngtime loves in the name of duty and they found, at least, comfort with each other, so it was appropriate for them to think that their eldest son and heir would do the same.

I read somewhere that, when in 1978 she got engaged to Philippe Junot (a match opposed by her parents from the start), Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace wanted the then-Hereditary Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg for a son-in-law.
The question is: what do you suppose HIS parents would have thought of such a match? Although she was of *equal* birth, coming from a sovereign house (no less), the Grimaldis still were not a highly thought of dynasty.
Would they have preferred a dynastic member of a non-reigning house (such as the Braganzas of Brazil) to a dynastic member of a reigning house?
