The cross-wire with plain tubes is supposed to be a WW2 throwback as shown by Hobson, but the other dates are all mixed-up in his book. The "Y" or "closing basket" with butted verticals (Ham) was used thru the 1920's. The 1930 to early 1940's had the overlapping verticals. The X wire plain tube versions are scarce but I do recall seeing a 1945 date on one of maybe 2 or 3 that I have. I'll have to dig them up and have a look. BB
