People have pointed out the expense, the negative impact on the environment, the greater need for other infrastructure interventions in the North, the fact this is a solution for a problem that was forecast a long time ago (failure to address due to southern bias, continued failure to address other issues due to cynical opportunism) but which is unlikely to exist in its current form by the time this is built and I think someone may have pointed out that as it stands it only goes as far as Crewe and you are relying on the word of a proven liar to see it go as far as Manchester and/or Leeds.
I'd say that is all fair and, in many cases, constructive. I am not saying there isn't a counter argument that has some merit itself, but my point is that dismissing criticism because that criticism will lead to failure is just the wrong way to address it. I am not saying it is a Brexiters' argument to support HS2, but that it is the same vein, because it tries to devalue the criticism by making criticism part of the reason for failure. That is, in short terms, utter b0110cks.
I'm not arguing for or against HS2 here. I'm arguing against rubbish arguments.
