I was aboard for that first WestPac cruise, The only time we were in DaNang,was the helo,(ClemintineII), brokedown. We moored to a bouy near the hospital ships. I have a picture of me, standing guard oin the starboard Quaterdeck with my M-1 carbine, which contained an empty clip. "guess I was untrustworthy"! Anyway, the only People who went ashore, were the boatcrew, a gunnersmate, some officers, and a few radarmen. I can't recall his name, but I remember him telling me that they got to go to the radar station on "Monkey Mtn." Hope this helps? Tim Perdoni
