The Dip is Electrolytic-Rust-Removal
Works great! removes rust, paint. Leaves tin plate
and any patina.

You can get the sodium carbonate at a pool supply
store. I
think it is called ph balancer. About $5, enough
to do two 55
gal. tanks with some left over.
The bubbles forming are hydrogen which is
flammable. Use it
Outside.
Not in the Garage. I have two tanks set up under
my deck,
with the charger inside the closed in section,
wires run
through the floor.
After the Dip, I brush with a plastic scrub brush
to remove
lose paint and rust, rinse with hose. I place the
lantern in
the Molasses for a day and use one Brillo pad to
polish. pat
dry, bake in the oven for 30 min. @ 200. to drive
all water
out. coat with linseed oil. So much easer then
just the
molasses and a box of Brillo.
Works on most lanterns in one day.
