The street lamp ran 100% all summer and most of the fall. All of a sudden I can't keep it running.
The font was full of water. I added lots of Methyl Alchohol to dry it out. The more I added, the more water came up from the bottom. I finally did a total dump and cleanout of the font. There was lots of white elmers glue-like stuff sitting way down there. It is all gone now. The kerosene is fresh... I even ran the new Kero thru a "Mr Funnel" filter to make sure that there was no water in it. I replaced the wick again as well.
It burns for a couple hours or so and then goes out. I have re-lit is a dozen or more times and the results are still the same.
The only thing different right now is that the air temperature is cold... 30's during the day and teens at night.
Could the cold temperature be the problem?
It is colder than normal for New England right now. It might warm up a bit before winter finally settles in for the long haul, so I might get a chance to see if this is a weather dependant issue.
In the mean time, the Kirkman #2 that I spoke of in the beginning just keeps burning.
If it turns out that the big lamp just isn't cold blooded, I am going to put another Kirkman #2 out there for the winter.
In the mean time, other than the cold being the culprit, I am pretty much out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try?
Rick
