Tiel and 6 Pound Dog

Someone passed on my sister's block last week and he had a 6 pound dog. I have a tiny one bedroom apartment. Can I take him in? I would never leave the two alone. Max doesn't come to me anyway and he only sits on the cage. The dog is tiny so won't be able to crawl on the cage. I don't want to upset Max. What do you think.

It's your decision. In the past I had cats and birds. But they were very special cats who were with me before I got birds, and never bothered wild birds even when the birds landed on them and pulled their hair out for nesting. I was still very careful with all concerned. I'd never risk it with any other cats after they passed away.

I can't say no or yes, you have to weigh the risks and decide for yourself. Max could panic and end up on the floor and be at risk for a quick attack. The dog could be upset by Max and bark a lot. those are the cons. The danger, and all. The pro is company for you. The con is him not being company for Max.

Again, it's totally up to you. I know other folks have had dogs and birds. I know in tiny apartments like you and I live in, there's no keeping pets separate, or rather there is, but it's difficult. Let us know what you decide, okay?

I had a cat with my birds in my other apartment. Both apartments are one bedroom but this one bedroom is tiny. It was very easy to keep them separated. I would definitely like the company but I don't want to hurt Max in any way. I didn't hear from my sister today so I'm assuming that someone else took the dog. I'll tell her tomorrow that this apartment is just too small for both pets. If I eventually move and get a larger one bedroom than I'll probably get a cat.

I know, mine is tiny, too. I can't see having a 4 legged pet here, there's no room for them to run around.

I hope the little dog got a good home. 6 pounds is tiny!

I spoke with my sister and someone already took him. Small dogs get adopted fast it's the large dogs that have the problems. Especially now that so many apartment buildings don't allow dogs over a certain weight.

I have my new pup Peanuts and 2 cats. My one cat does go upstairs but I do keep my dog and 1 cat out. I supervise while the birds are flying especially my pup because he is reactive to them flying around. He does listen when I tell him to "leave them".
Pic of my new pup Peanuts and him with my 20yo cat Sammy. I got him from the pound. He had mange, kennel cough, full of flea dirt, and every worm possible. He also only weighed 4.5#s. He doubled his weight after living one month with me. He now weighs 9.5#s.

I love black cats. He's a cute puppy. I'm sorry he was so initially sick but he landed in heaven when he found you.
