Mae has been on Lupron for years, even before we adopted her, to keep reproductive problems at bay. Recently, it seemed to stop working.

The vet did an ultrasound and found a mass in or on her ovaries that she said looks like cancer. We are trying the Desdorelin implant now. Surgery is a very risky option. This came up fast. We are devastated and hoping the implant shrinks the mass. Our late Duke had the same implant for testicular cancer and it shrunk his tumor to nothing. He had 3 more years of good living before the tumor grew back at age 28. Mae is almost 15.

Lupron and Desdorelin are similar. So we hope, but don’t expect, it’ll work. Mae is such a sweet cockatiel. She loves to be held and petted and has such a charming personality. Cookie seems to know something is wrong. Wish us luck.
