What a nasty thing to say! CP Mary did not ask for an invitation. It was extended to her, she accepted and her acceptance was published through the Royal Danish Court. A mistake was made by Buckingham Palace or whoever is reponsible to the invitations--fair enough--but surely there was a better solution than retracting the invitation. There are always people sending regrets at the last minute.
I doubt the other RFs would be so small-minded. Margarethe is a widow, her son is married. I think others would have understood well enough why Mary was there with Frederik. The problem with adherence to rigid protocol is that some bureaucrats think like robots, not as humans.
