This ride - and the whole reunification - was arguably the biggest moment in the King's life. When the horse died a couple of years later, he received as a gift one of its hooves which got a prominent place on his writing desk at Amalienborg - where it can still be seen. The rest of the horse was buried near Visborggaard Manor from where it was borrowed in 1920. Today there was a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave.
The entire royal family took part in the celebrations 100 years ago - and had it not been for Covid-19, there would have been big celebrations again these days with royal participation.
