It seems strange to me that the Sovereign would hold a titular honour granted by the crown he embodies and represents.
In the present reign, the court seem to recon that the King is still Duke of Jämtland.
In earlier reigns, there have been a couple of cases when the Kings or Dowager Queens Dukedom has been recreated.
The future King Oscar I was created Duke of Södermanland in 1811. He succeeded to the throne in 1844 and died in 1859.
His grandson Carl Oscar, was born and given the title Duke of Södermanland in 1852 (but died already in 1854), while King Oscar I, former Duke of Södermanland, was still alive.
The future King Oscar II was born and created Duke of Östergötland in 1829, succeeded to the throne i 1872 and died in 1907.
His wife Sophia was Duchess of Östergötland, became Queen in 1872, Queen Dowager in 1907 and died in 1913.
Their grandson Carl (jr.) was born and created Duke of Östergötland in 1911, while his grandmother, former Duchess of Östergötland was still alive.
