Re: Swedish Dukedoms
When the present king of Sweden dies, therefore, his dukedom, Jämtland, will become vacant. So, is this particular dudkedom at the disposal of the monarch to give whomever royal they choose or is it always given to the heir to the throne?
No they don´t. In the days of king Gustav Vasa 16-17th centuries) and his sons the royal dukes had incomes from ther duchies. When king Gustaf III reinvented royal dukedoms for his brothers (1770ies) they were just honorific titles and have remaind as such.
In Sweden, do various members of the royal family receive an appanage from their respective dukedoms/duchies, e.g., CP Victoria, Duchess of Västergötland, etc.?
