Current situation at EP

The plan for success and a future sustainable Stockport County = development of young talent to build success and add value to the club.
Now, I'm not calling for anybody's head. I do not know everything that goes on behind closed doors at the club. However, we do not seem to be 100% committed to the plan. It is a concern that after each poor result/performance, Chally's reaction seems to be to blame the players (including singling out by name) and warning that if they don't fix "their" problems then they will be out the door and replacements bought in. That doesn't seem good for morale or development to me, and also seems unlikely to make players want to play for the manager either?
Going back to the plan we are supposed to be following, it requires some patience and continuity, plus recognition of players' talents, potential and personality in order to get the best out of them that they are capable of.
While a canny signing can help to put us over the top, virtually rebuilding every six months is the opposite of what the plan is supposed to be, isn't it?
A good example of successfully achievement of how that plan can work would be Sunderland. Look at how long it took them to do it.

Part of Challinor's job as manager is to know how to get the most from his players. I would trust his judgement over mine of who can be "blamed" in public and those that may need a private word.

Agreed, that is part of the job for any manager and it is especially crucial with younger players who often haven't the ability to "manage themselves" that most seasoned pros have gained with experience. I support our manager and strongly hope he is successful but I am still able to look at what he says or does and question whether he could have done/said something better. Nobody's perfect, I'm not 😊

I think that with so many players who have played under him previously are more than willing to come under his wing again says a lot about how he manages players

Lost a game have we ? It's all Chally's fault is it ? Be really interested to know where we are going to get the £8-£10 million per season that Sunderland spend on their academy ?

We haven't lost a game,it has been a disappointing season,so far. But I specifically did not call for Chally out, or any players for that matter. I did point out that there is a plan to prepare the club for a sustainable future "after Stott", As our owner said, he/we can not buy our way into the championship, we have to do it another way which could also potentially take us even further. I don't know how much Sunderland spend on developing their young players or what we spend on developing our own youngsters, but I should think Sunderland are very happy with their return. In the premier and players worth many times those millions.
That is the blueprint, but we still have to spend what we/our owner can afford. The question is what can we afford, not what anybody else can afford. The alternative is to spend millions on players, a higher wage bill, players with a shorter shelf life and ultimately less value to the club's bottom line. That is why we have the plan.

But then I'm not moaning about being disappointed following an injury ravaged start to be only 5 points off a promotion spot with more than half the season remaining .

I am not anti Chally, although that is how you seem determined to paint me. I, like anybody else, an allowed to wonder about anything he says or does as manager of Stockport County. He is only human after all, and not infallible. You are equally entitled to disagree of course. I think we should just leave it at that,eh. 🍻

Living abroad I only get snippets of what's really going on from this and the other board. I guess with the success we have had in the past few years expectations from fans are high. This season my gripe is with our injuries, I know it cannot be helped however, the vagueness of it sometimes does not make sense? Camps, "no idea" may sooner maybe later, Beno, same. The guy who has not kicked a ball in anger yet, will he ever play? Lowe, not offering much at all. Mothersill, not pulling up trees yet. Looks like we are a bit of a shambles at present, the last game was a shocker, as JK says, when we are bad we are really bad

. Could go on for hours, it puts a spring in my step when we win and bums me out when we don't, like all of us. Just reminding myself as much as anything, that there a broader picture and a plan which is extremely important. Challenging to make it work but football continues to change (for better or worse?)(That is another discussion innit!)
There will be more casualties of the tv money football universe though and if we want County to survive and thrive, the plan has to happen.

I am not necessarily including you in this, although the above sentence appears to imply you belong to it, but there is a section of our fanbase who veer between utter joy and automatic promotion is a certainty when we win and utter doom and lower mid table at best when we lose.

I am sure this breed is at every club but for the rest of us, these people are actually quite wearing. And I wish they would listen to and learn from our manager, like the rest of us do and have.

Dave has consistently said during his tenure that staff and players don't get too high when things go well or too low when they don't. We've become a very good club with high expectations but realistically know there will be bumps in the road.

Taking that approach means your life as a fan is less stressful and results in us becoming more unified in our support. Everyone benefits from that including the players.

Of course there will be debates and opinions. That is to be expected and mostly welcome. It's a passionate game and we're a passionate club - I am probably not alone in already bracing myself for the debates when the renovation of the stadium begins in earnest!

But in terms of onfield performances, keeping everything measured can only help.

Well it is fair to say the club is probably the richest it has ever been and with investment comes increased expectation, exacerbated by social media, so the answer is probably yes.

But your question covers four different time periods and therefore four very different sets of circumstances so the real answer isn't as cut and dried as my first paragraph suggests.

10 years ago was 2015. We were in the National League North, Neil Young was a fairly dreadful manager and we were very fortunate to have a club at all. So expectations were very low. Just stay alive and hope.

20 years ago was relegation from League One to League Two and the first half of what became the miracle survival, ultimately with Jim as manager. But the actual year 2005 before Jim was appointed was a pretty desolate time to be a fan.

30 years ago was immediately post Danny and the beginning of Dave Jones. Hopes and expectations fuelled by the success under Danny were pretty high but Jones was an unknown appointment so there was a degree of trepidation about that

40 years ago we were still pottering around in Div 4 and were still five years away from Danny and the success he brought. A season that ended with not having to apply for re-election was a relative success and that was pretty well the case for two decades.

Utter joy of utter doom? Not guilty m'lud.
There are times I'm happy we won while being realistic that we didn't play great, and the opposite is also true. In an ideal world we play great and win but I've been around long enough to know that life isn't that easy, nowt is guaranteed.
I do still feel every result though, good or bad. Too old to change now and wouldn't want to. I think I keep it in perspective though, I think 😀

Great to hear and thanks for a good reply. Being a County fan was always more about the journey rather than the destination. Mr Stott has changed that somewhat but we need to remember what we always were as well as celebrating what we've become. Best of both worlds really but getting that through to the entitled types isn't easy!
