It’s time for a control, alt, delete moment for the management team!

A quarter of the season gone, and it’s all going
pear shaped. Gawd, we are certainly missing Collar, Sarcevic, Madden and Hippolyte this season.

Thankfully we had three early season wins and points on the board before the wheels started to fall off. Yes we’ve had injuries, but so have other teams. First bad call yesterday was to not start with Horsfall. Nothing against Sam Hughes who has now played two games and certainly has not let himself down but the team has been built around Horsfall.

Second bad call was to haul Addai off at half time. Yes he made a mistake, but he’s not the first keeper to ever do that. It’s the first time I’ve seen a keeper substituted at half time. Third bad call yesterday was to bring Lewis Bate our club captain off at half time. This season he has been one of the better players.

So with a tough game coming up it’s time for a control, alt, delete for the team and fingers crossed that it works.

I’m guessing that DC is going to have to stick with Hinchliffe in goals.

I’d go with a solid back four consisting of a proper right back (if any are fit), Horsfall, Hughes, Pye
(ditch this fluid three fluid four stuff it isn't working)

A midfield five consisting of Diamond Bate Norwood Fiorini Barry

Up top Tanto

Subs

Addai
Connolly (if not playing at right back)
Fevrier
Mellon
Collar (when fit)
Camps (when fit)
Bailey or Touray or Wooton (for now)

And if you do that and the lads grind out a victory on Tuesday stick with it !

Just as with every other time we have panicked and been proven wrong we should trust DC & his team to sort it out in due course. We had a many changes over summer. They will get it right in time.

See what your saying and agree in principal.

This season for me was a hopefully mid table finish and build on it next season, especially with turnover of players and the youth.

Of the players who left only croasdale has made an impact or stayed fit after leaving. I know this wasn't in your post but just adding to my thoughts

I wouldn't have Norwood anywhere near the side tbh, he's been utterly woeful aside from his debut.

Fully agree, he is shocking.

He sits in front of the back 3/4 and if anyone passes to him, he passes back to them and then occasionally he'll try a hollywood ball which invariably flies into touch. Add to that his lack of tackling ability.

Additionally, a 3-year contract for a 33 year old is unbelievable (and probably on an eye-watering wage

).

If ever there has been a panic signing it is him.

The older I get the better I was.

A little bit harsh. IMHO

It's as bad as those writing Fiorini off before the lad has had time to settle in to the team and our tactics. Ten minutes off the bench at the end of a game isn't enough to be fair.

Norwood is the most experienced player in the squad.

So who would you select to play instead of the ex Premier League player?

It isn't harsh, Norwood has offered next to nothing. Doesn't get about the pitch which is at odds with how Challinor sets his teams up, plus he isn't strong enough in the tackle to be the midfield enforcer we need. When fit, I'd have both Camps and Collar in there ahead of him on current form. Just because he's an ex-PL player doesn't mean he should automatically walk into the team. A three year deal is fully bonkers IMHO.

I remember the good old days when new players were given time by real Stockport County supporters to settle down in their new team before being written off.

Some of you posters need to give your heads a wobble and reset your expectation levels

I don't think DC was wrong to sub bate at half time, he might be captain on paper but doesn't play like one, doesn't rally the troops when we under the cosh, doesn't dole out the odd rollocking when required, little personality on the pitch..oh his general play was very poor also.

Corey..not too sure about the subbing at half time, pretty unusual but not necessarily wrong..

Bate is a very good player which is why we signed him. DC then made him team captain.

To be a good captain or manager doesn’t mean you have to bollock people all the time. Encouragement and support is often more productive.

Now is the time for DC support Bate and to do that he needs to pick the right players in the right positions around him and let them develop.

I don’t think being captain is that important in football.
Most teams will have a few dominant personalities in the dressing room who become unofficial leaders on the pitch.

A more senior player like Horsfall should've been captain not someone new to the team imo.

Agree.

I think Bate's great and it's nothing against him, but I really dislike new signings getting the captaincy.

Corey made some really good saves . It was an error with the pass but the extra pass back from Pye was not needed and then Connolly went walk about and left his man completely free. He wasn’t completely at fault for the goal.

At the end of the game he walked across the pitch to congratulate Ben. To do that in front of a unhappy away following took real guts and says an awful lot about the person Corey is.

I think most goalkeepers wouldn’t have shown their face and would have stayed in the dressing room.

Corey will get his chance again, but for me it’s Hinchliffe in the middle of our goal for now.

I also wish we still had CLE. Was selected for last Saturday’s TOTW. I don’t know whether he would have made it in L1 but think we should have given him the chance. I know many will disagree, but l liked his workrate.
