if playing 352 we don't play with traditional wingers
MSH, Knoyle, Evans at times all used as Wingbacks that provide the width down that side but drop in to form a back 5 when out of possession
Same with Touray, Rydel down the left side
At times when we've used the diamond with 4 at back I wouldn't say we use wingers in the traditional sense it's a narrow midfield who the central 2 form pockets and pick up space between the defensive lines that allows space down sides for full backs to join in and create an overload down that side
We've almost never used wingers in the traditional sense hugging touchline in a 442 at times we've played 4231 sometimes with those wide 3 inverted other times not but their starting position in that 3 would be much higher than a traditional winger who gets up and down the line and expected to muck in defensively and help full backs out, cos the 2 holding midfielders would cover and shift why don't see teams almost ever play 3 flat lines across the pitch anymore as game has evolved
