I signed for them as an 18 year old in 1978 when they ran in conjunction with Offerton Utd from the Wrights Arms. One of the first games I remember playing was on a pitch directly behind Woodbank stadium I played right back and in the same side that day was an older player and goes by the name of Alicante atter these days.

I played for the Green for 14 years became a secretary carried numerous fund raising activities to pay for pitch fees etc as well as taking home the kits each weekend to wash.

I still bump into a few of the lads from my days with the Green usually at EP and went to watch them win the Cheshire senior cup on the Wirral two years ago finally ending the day smashed in the Emmigration on Hall St.

I still have a few sherbets with Mr Offerton Green himself when time permits and when he’s not off on his travels.

Someone once said to me play as long as you can because there will be plenty of years ahead of you that you won’t be able to play. How right Peter Greathead was as I’m 60 this month.
