People like Labour policies. They just don’t think they’re affordable or realistic and they didn’t like Jeremy Corbyn or the prospect of a second referendum on the EU. That’s a messaging problem.
Over 10 million people voted for Labour though, and nearly 13 million in 2017. That isn’t insignificant. The last time more than 10 million people voted Labour was in 2001. The issue is with our electoral system but we already know that you think First Past The Post is the best so I’m not getting in to that.
In fact I’m not getting in to any of this with you. Because you still think anyone who supports a strong welfare state, public ownership of public institutions, and worker representation on company boards is a far left Stalinist (while simultaneously being paid by Putin apparently, which is funny given Putin is terrified of a return to power for the Communists).
As it is I hope Starmer does well. If he’d challenged for the leadership back when Owen Smith did then he might have stood a chance back then. But don’t think a return to 90s ways of thinking is guaranteed electoral success. We’re in the era of populism now.
